Thank you and Merry Christmas!
As the holiday season approaches, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in 2014, and to wish those who are celebrating a very happy Christmas and new year.
Introducing our new Executive Committee
Thanks to everyone who voted and who stood. We are pleased to introduce our new Executive Committee for 2015 – you can view the results here. At our AGM we welcomed the new Exec, thanked our outgoing Chair Claire Leigh for brilliant service for LCID, and heard from guest speakers including our Honorary Vice-Presidents Lord McConnell and Stephen Doughty MP, former DFID Special Advisor Richard Darlington and Universal Health Care expert Rob Yates.
We’d also like to say thank you to James Anthony, Alastair Osborne, Veronica Oakeshott, Mike Smith and Graham Giles for their work for LCID over the past year, and in some cases much longer.
The new Exec met last week and will be in touch soon with details of what we pledge to do in the run up to general election – and how you can get involved!
Aid bill – a special thank you
Thank you in particular to everyone who supported the successful effort to pass the Parliamentary motion turning the 0.7% target for aid spending into law. Thank you to the Labour MPs who turned up to vote – more Labour MPs voted for the bill than the rest of the parties combined – and thank you to everyone who campaigned to show their support. We are proud that this will make a real difference to the millions of people who benefit from British development aid. You can read more about the result here.
Welcome to Mary Creagh and Anas Sarwar
We’d also like to say how pleased we are to welcome Mary Creagh to the role of Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. We are delighted that Anas Sarwar has also joined her on the Shadow team alongside Gavin Shuker, Lord Collins and Pamela Nash. Both are already bringing their expertise and energy to the team and LCID is looking forward to doing everything we can to support them in 2015.
