BBC World Service should be funded by the FCO, not by UK aid

Despite other raids on DfID’s budget, responsibility for the World Service was spared from DfID at the Comprehensive Spending Review last October.

Now that decision has been reversed. It was announced last week that £90m is to be given over 5 years to fund the BBC World Service. There is no doubt the BBC World Service should be properly funded – but it should come out of the FCO budget, not from money that should be spent savings lives or building schools.

It’s yet another example of this government’s effective use of our aid.

  1. Dr Suda Rai. London says:

I agree that BBC World Service should be funded by the FCO budget and should not be scaled down as planned.
