Today, Shadow International Development Minister Rushanara Ali, spoke out over the Government’s intentions to implement the Bribery Act.
She said: “Corruption hits people in the developing world hard and this Act is a crucial tool in protecting them from exploitation by unscrupulous
companies.
“Labour passed the 2010 Bribery Act. We welcome that, after numerous delays, the Government has finally published the guidelines to the Act.
“The Tory-led Government must not water this Act down. We will be calling on the Government to make sure that no loopholes are created which would undermine the fight against the corruption which devastates lives in the developing world.
“It is essential that in the implementation of these guidelines, the Government starts to show the necessary international leadership in the fight against corruption, and that there are no further delays to the full implementation of this vital Act.”
