The Labour Campaign for International Development warmly welcomes Harriet Harman to the post of Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. We look forward to doing what ever we can to support her in holding the Coalition Government to account. To have the Deputy Leader of our Party take on this role shows the importance Ed Miliband has given to keeping the issue of international development high on our Party’s agenda.
We would also like to pay tribute to the tremendous leadership of Douglas Alexander as Secretary of State for International Development. We really appreciated the help Douglas and his office gave us whilst we were establishing LCID and were happy to have supported him. We wish him all the best in his new role as Shadow Secretary of State for Work & Pensions.
We hope that this new Shadow Cabinet can get stuck into the Coalition as soon as possible. Britain’s reputation as a world leader in development is being put at risk – with this new team we hope Labour can get back in Government as soon as possible and once again change millions of lives for the better.
