Good news – thanks to you, our motion on 0.7 and bringing back DFID will be in the ballot to be debated at Conference, into the subject ‘International Development.’ If you are a delegate to Conference, please vote for our motion in the Priorities Ballot, taking place from 10am – 2.30pm this Sunday.

LCID and Bond’s Reception
For a number of years now, Bond and LCID have hosted well attended drinks receptions at the Labour Party Conference. It remains critical that the Labour Party continue to use their influence as the Opposition to hold the government to account for their decisions to reduce the aid budget and to keep the pressure up to ensure all UK Aid is targeted towards where it can help those living in poverty the most. Speakers include our Chair Cllr Heather Staff, Shadow Development Secretary Preet Gill MP,LCID Vice President Hilary Benn MP and Chair of the Labour International Group, Wayne David MP.

Stronger Together for Britain in the World
Before that, LCID is co-hosting an event as part of Anneliese Dodds MP’s Stronger Together policy review. The event will explore the Britain in the World strand of the work. Speakers include Anneliese Dodds MP, Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy MP, Our Chair Cllr Heather Staff, LFPG Secretary Rishi Patel, and a representative from the GMB.

What is Labour’s offer on foreign policy and development?
Hosted by Bond and LFPG, this event will highlight the important role of development within the UK’s wider approach to foreign policy and outline how a coherent and joined-up approach, putting the most marginalised at the centre, can work. SME4Labour will be hosting a panel with representatives from the Shadow Cabinet, GMB, LCID and LFPG to discuss how the Labour Movement can show its solidarity with Ukraine. Stronger Together: Labour’s Foreign Policy Vision in a Time of Global Crises
At the same time, we are partnering with World Vision, Christian Aid and Tearfund to look at what a Labour alternative vision could be for the UK’s foreign policy. Looking ahead to the next general election, the discussion will be framed around what a broad, holistic, and integrated approach to foreign policy with development at its heart could look like under a future Labour government. In Conversation with Rt Hon David Lammy MP
LCID is delighted to be partnering with the Coalition for Global Prosperity and LFPG to co-host an event ‘In Conversation with Rt Hon David Lammy MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs’ is set to be a fascinating discussion, exploring how the Labour party can continue to champion international development and an ethical foreign policy in Parliament. With contributions from LCID Vice-Chair David Taylor and LFPG co-chair Jessica Toale.
